Tour Itinerary

The scenic town of Paarl.
We also visit Paarl on this Winelands Tour. It has a rich history of wine making and the role it played in the development of the Afrikaans language. Situated at the foot of the second-largest granite outcrop in the world, you’ll find this unexpected jewel; the scenic town of Paarl. Paarl proudly bears the title of the third-oldest town in South Africa. Standing tall on Paarl Mountain and celebrating the birth of Afrikaans is the Afrikaans Language Monument and just outside Paarl is Drakenstein Prison, where Nelson Mandela spent his last years of captivity and started his 'walk of freedom'. The scenic beauty of the Paarl Valley compels visitors to visit the many scenic routes in the valley and along the surrounding mountains. The richness in fauna and flora even attracted the attention of Charles Darwin, father of the theory of evolution, when he visited Paarl in 1836.

The Nederburg Wine Estate.
Our next stop on this Cape Winelands Tour is the Nederburg Wine Estate, flanked by rolling lawns and giant old oak trees. The historic Manor House is a proud symbol of Nederburg’s enduring legacy. Completed in 1800, this elegant homestead with its fort-like walls, high ceilings and airy rooms is one of the most recognisable Cape-Dutch buildings in the Western Cape. Everything in the house tells a story – from the flagstone floor tiles shipped from Europe to the classic furniture collected over the years. And, far from being a mere monument, the Manor House is still used regularly for dinners, wine tastings and music recitals.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KWV Wine Emporium.
The KWV Wine Emporium offers visitors an unique opportunity to taste a selection of prestigious wines and brandies.

What makes their tasting so special?
Wines for tasting do not only include the standard offering of natural red or white wines. Visitors can also experience South African Sparkling Wines, Fortified Wines, Brandies and the famous Van Der Hum Liqueur.

Daily Public Scheduled Tours.
Our Cape Winelands Tour includes an audio-visual presentation of the KWV and its various brands. A specialised tour guide will take visitors through a barrel maturation cellar, then to the world-renowned Cathedral Cellar, and the five big vats. The tour ends with an informal tasting of six products.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Franschoek Valley.
Franschhoek Valley where French settlers settled after fleeing persecution in France in the late 17th century. Nestled between towering mountains in the beautiful Cape winelands lies the magnificent Franschhoek Valley. The food and wine heartland of the country where splendid wines are grown and top chefs create international cuisine. Breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world class cuisine and the finest wines - the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Spectacular vineyards cover the mountain slopes settled more than 300 years ago by the Huguenots who brought with them their age-old French wine and food culture. This valley is rich in history centered around the picturesque village of friendly, welcoming people.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boschendal Wine Estate.
Boschendal Wine Estate is one of the oldest wine producers in the New World with a French viticultural heritage dating back to 1685 and the Manor House dating back to 1812 is an outstanding example of Cape Dutch architecture. Here we discover Boschendal's Wide Range of exquisite wines by visiting the Wine Tasting Centre, Exhibition Vineyard and Cellar.

Wine Tasting Centre - Oldest building on the property, taste and buy wines under the shade of the huge oak tree.

Exhibition Vineyard - Experience how the Boschendal vineyard operates, all in one place.

The Cellar - Explore Boschendal's State of the art cellar.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pniel Village.
Pniel, a village where the local people sometimes have great stories to tell. Orchards, vineyards and mountains surround Pniel, with the Dwars River running through it. Originally Pniel was an agricultural village, but today fruit and vegetable production has grown into a large industry, which has become the major source of income for the town. Peace and quiet are hallmarks of Pniel's hospitality.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stellenbosch.
We spend the afternoon of this Winelands Tour in Stellenboschwith its many historic buildings and some unique shopping opportunities. The ± 900 square kilometres municipal area is internationally renowned for its beautiful environment, many places of interest, wine farms, street cafes, restaurants, quality wines, historical buildings and excellent educational institutions. The major portion of the area is utilised for agriculture (mainly wine production) and it includes the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and settlements such as Klapmuts, Koelenhof, Kylemore, Johannesdal, Pniel, Jamestown and Raithby. Stellenbosch town is 50 km to the east of Cape Town and is - after Cape Town - the oldest town in South Africa.

This Winelands Tour is a great tour to sample some of South Africa's best wine!

Tours on Sundays do not include a Cellar tour but more Estates.
